چکیده

We have searched for close and faint companions around T Tauri stars in the Chamaeleon star forming region. Two epochs of direct imaging data were taken with the VLT Adaptive Optics instrument NaCo in February 2006 and March 2007 in Ks band for the classical T Tauri star CT Cha together with a Hipparcos binary for astrometric calibration. Moreover a J band image was taken in March 2007 to get color information. We found CT Cha to have a very faint companion (Ks0 =14.6 mag) of ∼ 2.67” separation corresponding to ∼ 440AU. We show that CT Cha A and the faint object form a common proper motion pair and that the companion is not a non-moving background object (with 4 σ significance).

Direct evidence of a sub-stellar companion around CT Cha

Aims. In our ongoing search for close and faint companions around T Tauri stars in the Chamaeleon star-forming region, we here present observations of a new common proper motion companion to the young T-Tauri star and Chamaeleon member CT Cha and discuss its properties in comparison to other young, low-mass objects and to synthetic model spectra from different origins. Methods. Common proper mo...

HD 77407 and GJ 577 : two new young stellar binaries detected with the Calar Alto Adaptive Optics system

We present the first results from our search for close stellar and sub-stellar companions to young nearby stars on the northern sky. Our infrared imaging observations are obtained with the 3.5m Calar Alto telescope and the AO system ALFA. With two epoch observations which were separated by about one year, we found two co-moving companion candidates, one close to HD77407 and one close to GJ 577....

Medium-resolution optical spectroscopy of young stellar and sub-stellar M-dwarfs in the Cha I dark cloud

We obtained medium-resolution spectra of the bonafide brown dwarf Cha Hα 1, the five brown dwarf candidates Cha Hα 2 to 6, two additional late M-type brown dwarf candidates, all originally selected by Hα emission, and four previously known T Tauri stars, all located in Chamaeleon I. The spectral types of our targets range down to M8. We show their spectra and also list their IJK magnitudes from...

Deep infrared imaging and spectroscopy of the nearby late M - dwarf

We obtained deep Hand K-band images of DENIS-P J104814−395606 using SofI and the speckle camera SHARP-I at the ESO-3.5m-NTT as well as QUIRC at the Mauna Kea 2.2m telescope between December 2000 and June 2001. The target was recently discovered as nearby M9-dwarf among DENIS sources (Delfosse et al. 2001). We detect parallactic motion on our images and determine the distance to be 4.6 ± 0.3 pc,...
